The Mystery of the Treasure Box

St Patrick Chaplets for Salt and Light Radio Spring Pledge Drive March 16-18, 2022

The chaplet components have an interesting history. The St Patrick medal and crucifix were part of the treasure box. The rock chips and stones were given to Marie Edwards by my friend Mary Russell a gifted artist, at her passing a few years ago. I have made several attempts to honor my friend by making something beautiful, meaningful, or useful. After much aggravation, many failed attempts at chain rosaries and jewelry, I set the many pounds of stones and chips aside until a better purpose came to light. Most of the beads were provided by Judy Blacksmith. She has spent many years making beautiful chain rosaries until arthritis made the process impossible. We are grateful that these gifts have found their way into beautiful sacramentals.

The Treasure Box, in truth, is a tackle box. The brown and tan colors and design is reminiscent of the 1970s. It is an odd contrast for the contents. There are 30+ different saint medals, miraculous medals, rosary parts, relics, and more. Judy brought the treasure box to our weekly OLV Rosary-making meeting near the first of the year, 2022. There was a lot of joy, admiration, and astonishment when admiring the contents. I was simply overwhelmed with the magnitude of what was in this simple tan and brown plastic box. Judy shared with us the story of how she had received the treasure box from Fr. Flores during his last year as the pastor at OLV, approximately 2014. She knows that it belonged to a nun who attended daily mass at OLV and gave the box to the Rosay group for making rosaries, necklaces, and other sacramentals. With great joy we have been doing just that, making beautiful rosaries and chaplets. We have made many of them for a donation, to continue the legacy and our ministry. Unfortunately, we have not been able to learn her name, and would like to be able to pray for her and honor her accurately,  with her name instead of "The Nun of the Treasure Box". We do know she has gone to her eternal rest. Do you have knowledge or information about the Nun of the Treasure Box?

It is by the prompting of the holy spirit to make St. Patrick chaplets for the Spring Pledge Drive. My intention and prayer are that every person who sees your St Patrick Chaplet will be moved closer to Christ and more fully alive in the Catholic Church.
